KIS Alginate is a sterilised wound dressing which is composed of calcium alginate (a gelatinous and water insoluble fibre derived from seaweed).
When in contact with a wound, the calcium alginate reacts with the sodium chloride in the wound and turns the dressing into a hydrophilic gel-like consistency.
This gel-like covering over the wound maintains a physiologically moist environment that promotes wound healing and assists in the formation of granulating tissue.
